A playful new add-on for the iconic USM Haller modular furniture system will debut at Milan Design Week.
For 60 years, Swiss design icon USM has been a byword for timeless modularity with its USM Haller modular furniture system – a design philosophy that outlasts fleeting trends and constantly evolves to meet the demands of every generation. At this year’s Milan Design Week, USM will showcase a new product. The great design freedom offered by the modular system is complemented by a creative add-on that once again emphasises its versatility.
The installation “Connected by Our Dreams”, located on Viale Piave near Porta Venezia, immerses visitors in a fascinating experience, inviting them to explore the functional design and possibilities of a new panel. Clear the stage for playful change and creative experimentation! With a variety of colours, textures, sizes and sounds, the dreamy setting turns reality on its head, encouraging us to rethink modularity.

Introducing the new USM Haller Soft Panel. Available from September 2025.
The new textile panels come with four magnets and can be easily clicked into the tubular structure of the modular furniture system – no assembly or additional fixtures required. Clear the stage for playful change and creative experimentation! Folding the panels up or down to open and flip into the next compartment is just as easy. You can turn things around at any time or position them elsewhere in the furniture. Opening, closing, sliding, and repositioning is effortless. Magnetism creates a completely new experience: playful, soft, and easy.
Playful
The furniture’s aesthetics and functionality transform in the blink of an eye, adapting to your mood or changing requirements. Patterns and colours can be combined like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle to form a cohesive whole or an eclectic mix. Flip – one moment it’s bright orange – flap – now your furniture is transformed into an elegant red with a vertical pattern. Every flip brings a new change.
Soft
The USM Haller Soft Panel is made of high-quality synthetic fibre, with 40% recycled Seaqual® Fibres marine plastic. Lightweight, stable and with renowned USM durability. Soft to the touch and a warm aesthetic, it provides a surprising contrast in the metallic world of the classic design. Another special feature: the panels reduce noise and improve room acoustics. This is typical USM: design, functionality, and sustainability in symbiosis.
Easy
The lightweight panels are easy to attach and move without any assembly or additional equipment, making them perfect for giving existing furniture a fresh twist.
The USM Haller Soft Panels will be available from September 2025, in three sizes (750 x 350 mm, 500 x 350 mm and 350 x 350 mm), three patterns (diagonal, curved and vertical), and ten colours.
The new panels were developed in collaboration with French designer Marc Venot, and the final design was realized by the US design studio JOBA, led by Kevin Jones. JOBA is also responsible for this year’s Milan Design Week installation, “Connected by Our Dreams”.
