Architectural roots
Münsingen, 1962
Paul Schärer joined the family business in 1961 and quickly decided to modernise it. He appointed Swiss architect Fritz Haller to design a new factory and office pavilion. Haller went for a modular steel-frame construction system.
Now it needed a suitable interior design corresponding to the innovative architecture. And so, Haller and Schärer began in 1962 to develop modular furniture that adopted the modularity and versatility of the new building.
The furniture was based not on individual items of furniture but on a system that would be able to meet requirements to this very day.
